Still rambling thru my bag of estates sale coins. Came across these 2 coins. They appear to be copper. Have no idea what they are. Can anyone tell me?
Not sure if they're real, but if they are, they're Civil War Tokens. "Army and Navy" is about $15 in F condition.
After googleing Army, Navy coin. The first coin is a 1864 confederate token. Still googling for the second one. Would sure like to know if it is confederate or union.
alot of the civil war tokens were not so "clear" so they almost have a "bubbly" look.I personally think they look pretty legit,and they would sell between 25-45$ in that condition.You have to take into consideration the die press they used to make those type of coins/tokens,were not Mint grade industrial machines,and thy had errors on em,that was pretty common.Unless graded,then they would be a better premium showing their numeric grade.Nice color on on the 1st one,the second is a bit light,but still they both DO Not look harshly cleaned..look xf45-au50 from the pictures.Nice tokens
I doubt the first one is a Confederate token because the reverse says, "The Federal Union, It Can and Must be Preserved". Not a Confederate sentiment!
pjstack is right, definitely not Confederate. There are very few Confederate themed tokens and all are quite valuable.
These are both known as Patriotic Civil War tokens (as opposed to storecards), and are rather nice examples. Your first token is id 220/322a, R1 rarity (over 5000 known). The diesinker for these dies is unknown, but was in the area of Waterbury, Conn, and the dies could have been made at the Waterbury Button Co. Your second token is id 50/335a, also an R1 rarity. The diesinker for this token was Charles D. Horter, of 178 William Street, New York City, NY.

snapcrcklpop, while you may have a token of the same die pairing, there is a pretty good chance that it is not the same. In the patriotic series, there are 66 listed Indian Head dies (but only 7 are of the style like the OP's), and there are 7 "Our Army" dies. Sometimes the differences are hard to distinguish if you don't know what to look for. There are also quite a few metal possibilities, although copper would be the most common type. If you can post some pics, I will be glad to id it for you.
