I don't know. The set looks cool, but $90 seems a bit steep. Question: Are the nickels going to be Matte finish, like the 1994 Jefferson set? They do not really specify on the web site, from what I can see. When I ordered the 1993/4 Jefferson dollar/currency set, I thought the nickel was just a nice Unc. coin, but, from reading one of Jody's posts, I realized it is quite valuable now because of the matte finish!!! I missed out on the 97 one with the Botanical Garden set. Every once in a while the Mint sells these "instant rarities" like the Matte 98 Kenndy Half and the 1996-W dime. The big one I missed out on was the 1995-W proof silver eagle -- but you had to spend a grand for the whole set with the gold coins to get the eagle.
Yea, the $90 was a shocker, but to be honest I've funded half of my collection buying and selling the C&C sets. I put in my order late today, and wouldn't be surprised if I don't even get it.
Really??? Well, maybe I will order one, now. The $10 bill is a replica, though. But the limit is 50,000 . . . . Back to the nickels in the set. Are they just going to be BU, nothing special about them like matte finish???
If you have not already ordered these sets - I would not hold out much hope of being able to get one from the Mint. I suspect they are already sold out
I placed my order online the same evening Mr. Davis started this thread. My order was accepted, and they said the product is backordered and will be delivered on about 6/1. I'm presuming that means I will get it, because if something is sold out, they usually say "sold out" and not "backordered". Anyway, those still interested may want to try to order online from usmint.gov.
Ordered mine online yesterday. Decided the $90 was a worthwhile investment considering the limited number of sets to be minted. Only picked up one for personal collection.
Hello, I watched with amazement as the L&C sets disappeared in 6 days! I was on the site day one -but thought $90 was steep -so I passed. At this very moment they are selling on Ebay for $150++. What gives here? The "Legends of Freedom" set tanks, so does the Euro+US sets -but the L&C set soars?? Any reason why? As far as I could tell, the coins in the set were just ordinary UNC coinage -no special matte finish etc. Makes me wonder about the pouch/proof set. Here too, $120 is steep and no way of knowing if that will be of interest to collectors. Did the Buffalo C&C sets do well?
Does anyone know if you ordered and received an email reply that set was backordered means that you will receive the set? Jim
I presume it means you will. That has happened to me before, and I always got what I ordered a few days after the estimated shipping date.
thanx peter. if you didnt post this thread i would not have known about the sets. i dont visit the guv site that often. i read this thread and jumped to the guv site and got in. thanx again...
The Buffalo C&C sets sold out in 2 days - the rest of the Buffalo commems sold out in 2 weeks. As to why some sets sell while others don't - it depends on what folks like. If everybody likes them - gonzo in a hurry. I would be surprised if the sets in the pouches don't sell out almost immediately.
