tried using conserv coin cleaner but it didn't work, this is not my nickel, but it looks very similar
here is a similar photo, mine has what appears to be brown and green oxidization https://metaldetectingforum.com/att...a7ba78e797c7&attachmentid=139700&d=1328838172
how do i clean a 1906 liberty head/v-nickel without damaging the value Unless you are an expert, you probably can't And since you asked, then you can't
Hi and welcome to CT, good advice in the above post. Improper cleaning would look similar to your avatar image. Dark haloes in and around the date and stars, resulting in a look that says "altered"/cleaned. Not something you want.
Forget about it. If it's similar to that it's too far gone. I'm a metal detectorist with almost 14 years experience so I know. Don't even try.
Best not to clean coins and since you’re new and asking you would make the coin worse than it is. Welcome to CT.
I would differ than most here - i would clean a nickel like that - you can't get any lower in coin value that you already have for a 1906. Some nasty coins i get from roll hunting go thru a rock tumbler and sometimes that doesn't help either. Wire brush might be your best/worst option but the damage is already done. Good Luck
