Is it me or does it seem that folks are turning in their old change more than in the recent past? I am finding older coins in great condition, even some silver!! Guess the times really are getting bad.
Could be. Banks I've visited have had more half dollar rolls then in the past from people cashing them in.
I do not get to work with money like a few years ago, due to job changes. but, it used to run in streaks in the change drawer. My guess was that many times a family found hoards of change after a relative passed away, and no one in the family was into cherry picking or coin collecting. So the small hoard went straight to the bank, silver, wheaties, error coins, and all.
I have searched 5 rolls of nickels so far and found around 10 pre 1962 nickels which you don't find that often, no silver though. I haven't noticed this much people are just using things like CoinStar more and more now so old change is always going back into circulation.
About a month ago, I was at Wal-Mart saving money so I could live better, and received a 1954-D Franklin in my change.
Not to long ago a guy brought me a well circulated Standing Liberty Quarter he had received in change. You could not read the date on it. People bring coins to me on occasion cause I am the only one in the whole plant that knows anything about coins. Kind of sad. Anyhow he said his mother has a few coins and would let her have it.
