From Yellow River Rare Coins, an N-21-I. I could not resist the amazing reverse die clash. Check this out: Nothin' like a Fugio!
They overpaid. LOL. This one isn't all that rare, is it? I bought it for the price of a run-of-the mill, VF Fugio.
I dig the fugios. I'd like to own a nice one some day. There was a pewter one recetly stolen here in the NE. This one's clash is very cool.
As far as I know there is no such thing as a pewter Fugio. I think you are confusing it with the pewter "Continental dollar". Same basic design but much different in size, material, rarity, and struck eleven years earlier.
I like it. I think it's an incredible clash. In fact, it looks so bold it almost looks like a double strike - the coin was flipped and struck a second time. It isn't, since the eyes are relief one side and incuse on the other. It's just so bold. It's remarkable.
Yeah, the clash is amazing. I mean, these were made on a screw press, right? So they just screwed the dies together full force. And the clashed design is so sharp, it had to have been done when the dies were fairly new. I dig how the sun is peeking out from behind the chain links. I had told myself that 3 was enough, but when I saw this one I had to have it.
That's what Whitman says. It is indeed speculated that the clashing happened when the dies were fairly new.
