wasn't looking for this particular coin, but it is a slot i needed to fill for the type set... at under 1/2 list and only 12 70s.. I pulled the trigger lol. I think this about the best I can do for this particular quarter even if not quite as nice as my silver one
When you say "list" what do you mean? What so-called list are you referring to? Because many price guides don't reflect reality. (and, if you got it for such a discount from this so-called mythical list... has it occurred to you that maybe there's a reason for that?) And when you say it's not as nice as your silver one, what do you mean? How does this coin, in hand, grade according to your own evaluation? All we have are pictures... and the pictures make it look positively dreadful. I do believe that if you showed me these pictures and asked me to guess the grade, I'd have been dubious of anything higher than 67CAM! Telling me that's a 69UCAM means either the pictures are terrible, the grading is terrible, or my interpretation of what the grading is supposed to mean is terrible.... I really don't mean to poop on your coin... if you are happy for it for your set, then I am happy for you. I'm just trying to understand if you're happy, why you're happy, and how I can be happy for and with you.
The frosting is really strong, hence the ultra cam, and I can't see single defect apart from the spot on the neck, so I think 69 is high but 68 would be fair. Having said this, I don't know anything about these proof quarters so... make of it what you will
Ok I'll take this question by question and try not to be the grumpy bastich I really am "List" This one is a good an valid question.. basic answer... listed value provided by the TPG of the slab... more accurate description being, the average of the list price at both pcgs and ngc as well as recent auction prices on said coin. So I guess what I really said/meant was I got the coin for 1/2 the price I expected to pay for it.. the 2nd half of that question is easier... "wasn't looking for this particular coin, but it is a slot i needed to fill for the type set..." or more clearly not a coin a really gave a rats arse about but still needed for a set. being it's a slabbed/competeitive set means at least in this case of this coin, the number on the plastic means more then the coin itself. But! Yes the coin is overgraded but still a fantastic and beautiful coin of it's type and you'd be hard pressed to find a nicer one for the price i paid Now since you ask about the "Silver one" (Note: the sticker came off seconds after this pic was taken, back when i got the coin lol) As for the last bit, Yeah you spewed a bit of poop, but in this case you weren't 100% wrong but a pooper without a doubt and a last side note... Much easier to come by the nice silver proofs, the clad proofs in this case carry higher premiums since there are far fewer in high grades..
I picked up one of these too. This seller is using stock photos now. You don't get the coin pictured. The one I won showed the same cert you posted here. The cert i got is different. If you go to the auction listing it says it. But this seller used to be coin pictured in the one you receive. Kind of aggravated with the scratch on the holder obverse on mine though.
There was another one of these ending last night. I felt it needed to go for 20. I dropped 19.99 at the last second and won it for 12.10. Can't beat that...
