I got this 1943 steel wartime wheat penny that has some unique looking toning. It also has an aggressive die crack on the reverse. I looked on pcgs coin facts but didn't see any that had a similar look. It weighs 2.62 grams. Kind of a weird coin, what's going on here? Just a die crack and toning? Or possibly a mixture of metal? Another thing I noticed is the "L" in LIBERTY is closer to the edge than the others I saw???
Your pictures make it look like a reprocessed cent, and the "crack" could be an artifact of the plating.
I had an experience with same type of tone. My Lincoln cent looked light gold. It has been tampered with unfortunately but for the die crack I am not positive but I’m sure others will be able to tell you asap.
ASAP. The crack looks "like a nasty scratch". The toning I'm not able to tell from these photos. JMO.
Since the "crack" appears to go under (not across) the "C" in "CENT" I don't think it's a die crack. More likely a die scratch or maybe some sort of result of the plating.
I think the reverse has a scratch that was done before the coin was replated. The edge shows that it is a replated coin. The yellow tint/tone could be from a residue of acids used in the replating process.
