Another couple of cents that were part of Mom's stash.

    Are these errors ?

    Thanks.

Why do you suspect that they might be errors?

There seems to be a D under the S on the coin with the raised + in the center of the S
Directly north of the S looks like a shadow. When tilted, I see a "ghost" D
Kind of looks like the one (1946 S/d with the same fs # in the Cherrypicker's Guide). I don't have anyone around to look at them. Getting to a local dealer is problematic, since I am not able to drive. LOL

Just wondered if these were just damaged coins like my other ones, or if I actually found something is all.

The second coin looks like something underneath the mint mark also.

Sorry Gary. Can't see what you're describing. Could be though that the photos that you posted are difficult to read. Is there any way you could post larger and more distinct photos?

I doubt it. These were taken with my scanner. I just have not mastered getting pics with my cam that are clear enough to use.

I will keep at it, because the mint marks are certainly different than any of the other coins. Mom had a concession in the late 50's, and she tossed everything that looked funky into a jar. I got the jar and 2 full 3 # coffee cans of junk coins in 1980 and left them in a box until recently.

Tanks for taking the time to look.

    You're welcome.

As I'm sure you know, the sooner you can become more astute at taking photos, the better.

For me, I started using a copy stand that I picked-up online for about $60. It shortened my learning curve considerably.

I also use the macro focus option and the built-in 2-second timer. It's the only way that I can snap photos without shaking or fumbling the captured image.

I built a copy stand, got a new 7.0 pixel cam with a macro focus. Just cannot seem to get the lighting or the focus right. I use a 10 second timer. Even bought some computer junk like a USB card reader, etc. But I think it may be true, that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks ? LOL

The best place I found for taking my shots is on the dining room table underneath the chandelier. I use five 60 watt GE Reveals.

I have a work area in my garage that I am thinking of building a light box in. Foil line it and string a line of clear Xmas bulbs around it Covering that with cheesecloth as a filter and seeing if I can grab some real neat pics.

Problem is that, I opened Pandora's box when I started sorting Mom's stuff. I got the bedroom we use as an office trashed ! Stuff is everywhere ! I have already put over 500 of the better ones in cardboard flips and labeled without trying to grade anything.

I did sell some to be able to buy the supplies. I need to make this a 0 negative pursuit. LOL Don't we all ?

With a decent glass and scope, you should be able to grade all of them, even if they are in flips :)

Yes, it would be nice if indeed the hobby could be a zero-sum gain, wouldn't it?

If you do any sales, you may consider consulting with a tax accountant to see if you could deduct expenses as part of a start-up business venture.

Right now, I need to keep expense below my receipts. We do read every day, so we buy a lot of new hardcover books. I have resold those to pay for the supplies. It's really a small sum thing and I don't foresee any growth. But that is very good advice to someone who wants to make a bigger venture of it.

For me, it's to keep me out of my wife's hair and to avoid Oprah & Judge Judy. LOL

6ne of them looks very much like the 1946 S over D. The old classification # I got from the Cherrypickers' Guide give the 1944 S over D and has the same old classification # of 21.2. But I have never seen one, so I really don't know what I am looking at. LOL

I thought I could see part of the D underneath and the metal on one of them is elevated where the marks would cross. I was hoping someone who had a few might be familiar enough to verify them.

Thanks so much for the link.
