 We have to grade copper, and only one Morgan, I'm out, lol.

1879-S Morgan- MS65 (Great coin! The obv looks like it has some strong frost on Liberty, it may be PL, but imo that's too hard to decide from the pics, especially with the toning).

    1835 1/2 Cent- MS64RB
    1917 SLQ- AU50
    1921- VG10

    Round 2 recap:

Good group of submissions in round 2.
    Welcome BQCoins, Swish, and Mumu....

Also... lot of folks at the edge of making the 1st official ranking after round 3:

    Pretty solid round for everyone....

    NGC grades:
1879 - MS66 - hard to grade toners.. I like this one, not PL but it looks like one, and I love the way the portrait is framed by the toning. More blue around the rim than I could show.
    ANACS grades:
    1835 - MS61
    1917 - AU50
    1921 - VG10

Observations: none really this round.. no zingers, other than the toner.

Awards for this set of cents:
Best - Raider - 1.0 > Very strong, and this is two in a row folks.. you have your target.
    HA - Badthad & Swish - 3.25 ;)
    Others:
    BQCoins - 2.75
    bigjpst - 1.5
    Chip - 3.0
    Rlm's - 1.75
    Leadfoot - 1.5
    Lehigh - 2.0
    Duke - 1.75
    Mumu - 1.5

Official rankings for many after next round...
    One to round 3...........

    Baha,

I know this is your gig and everything but I think your scoring system is a little unfair. You are calculating the grading difference simply by subtracting the numerical values. This does not present a problem in the mint state grades but does for the circulated grades. For example, the SLQ was an AU50 but I guessed AU53. I got 3 points because of the numerical difference but there are no such grades as AU51 or AU52. I really think you should count the number of recognized grades rather than subtracting the numbers. I was only off by one grade on that coin. Your way will unfairly skew the contest towards those members who collect circulated coinage. I submit that if anything, it is more important to be able to grade in the uncirculated realm due to the price variations involved.

Using the method of counting the number of established grades away from the assigned grade the new scores would be:

    bqcoins: 1.5
    raider34: 1
    bigjpst: 1.25
    badthad: 2
    chip: 1.5
    rlm cents: 1.25
    Leadfoot: 1.25
    swish513: 2
    Lehigh96: 1.25
    Duke: 1.25
    mumu: 1.25

It becomes a much closer horse race this way and really think it is more fair. Anyway, that is my suggestion.

Lehigh,, excellent point. One which in all honesty I did not consider at all before starting. So, that said, let me offer one counterpoint for the groups consideration, and then we'll put it to a vote.

Counterpoint - lower grades should be easier to dial in,, therefore, misses will be more heavily weighted in the score...

That said, please vote NOW, before the first rankings and while the revisions to scores will still be a digestable task.

I vote it stays the same,, cuz I'm lazy, however I will go by the majority vote on this issue and will announce any revisions to scoring and incorporate them (if needed) before we score round 3 early this weekend.

    Good feedback, thanks.

    Baha,

The easiest way if you are going to use a voting process is to add a poll to this thread. I guess my vote is obvious especially since I am terrible at grading circulated coinage because I don't collect it.
