Good evening, I have another coin I'm curious about, it's a 2004 Iowa State quarter. The quarter appears smaller than other quarters and thicker. It also has no ridges on its outer rim. I've attached photos. Is this an error or damage? Thank you for your time!
Post mint damage. The coin was tumbled until the reeding on the edge flattened and spread out. Not an error of any kind.
That is a "spooned" quarter. An activity I participated in frequently as a youngster. Tap a coin around the edges with the back of a spoon long enough and the rim builds up and the diameter decreases. Drill out the center and you have yourself a ring.... It's a long process and I am guessing the "spooner" got tired of tapping with yours.
