Good afternoon. I hope everyone is enjoying their day. I'm curious about a Liberty Head Nickle that I've posted images of and whether it is an error. It's not in the best of condition but it's not in the worst either Thanks in advance for any insight anyone could offer me. I'm sure us novices can be exhausting. This forum really helps me learn. Thank you!

Hi Tegan….. The Liberty nickel was a very hard working series and it is common to see them in very worn condition. That doesn’t take away from the fact that there is over a hundred years of history in that nickel making it very very cool……. Now I guess you are asking about a possible error due to the date digits missing. I suppose that could certainly be the result of a filled die. I would be more inclined to think that somebody with too much time on their hands removed the first and last digits of the date. Used to be common for folks to create art with their pocket change. If you want to go down a deep rabbit hole, Google 19th century love tokens and you will get a taste of what I am talking about. Still is a very cool piece though!

The first and last letters were removed I believe. It would have been a 190#.
Grease filled die is a possibility though. But its too worn to give it a premium anyway.

The lady number looks like the die was filled with grease or debris so it didn’t make a mark on the coins surface. The 1 was removed by someone with a little too much time on their hands so it been damaged.
