Well, so I know I said I wasn't going to spend any more money for a while, after the recent large purchase..... but, I saw this come up and knew I had to have it. I think I got a great price on it, but for a coin like this I am willing to pay a bit more. The strike is outlandishly strong. I'll let y'all guess the grade for a bit before I tell. So, comments?
I think you are becoming the king of non-Morgan proof-like silver coins. And I agree with Tom on the grade of MS66. Did you see the collection of proof-like commemoratives that was auctioned last year. You definitely need to get a hold of a PL New Rochelle. Some of them are stunning.
It looks PL and I think you are doing a PL type set so it would fit in quite nicely. Do you have a PL WQ yet? The 1946-S and 1947-S WQs are most often found as PL.
I did indeed see the collection on Heritage in December. It was called the Bagne collection, and it seems like well over half of all prooflike classic commems slabbed were in it. It was absolutely incredible. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that I wanted to start a prooflike type set until January. Prooflike coins are intriguing, beautiful, not well known, undercollected, astoundingly rare, and I love them! I will never be able to finish a type set because some coins just don't exist, but I'll get as far as possible, eventually. The problem is, they usually garner an equally astounding premium. Keep the guesses and comments coming!
I don't have a PL silver Washington yet. Douglas (aka coinman1794 on NGC) has a really nice 67PL 47S for sale, but its rather pricey. I haven't seen another lower graded/cheaper example for sale since I started looking, but they are available - far more so than some other series.
:high5: that's a beauty! So close to PL it deserves the star. A D mint dd: ?? BTW, why the worried mood?
I was looking at this coin again this evening, just gazing on the beauty of the surfaces, when I noticed something really cool - there is a pretty good DDO on the coin. Her nose, motto, and the rays of the sun are doubled. Take a look! Great guesses on the grade, I'll reveal it in the morning.
I'm not a specialist by any means, but I have lots and lots of Walkers. What strikes me with this one is the feathers on the neck. When I take a first glance at the reverse, my mind is SCREAMING to find someone to shave all that stuff off the neck. Simply said, GREAT coin - Congratulations.
Great definition on Liberty's head and nice split on the hand. Clean right obverse field. Reverse has one mark and is not quite as nice but I think NGC gave this a 67. Great addition. Are you doing the registry for your Walkers?
Very nice walker. It has some awesome features outside of its high gradem the PL fields, the DDo. I think it falls short of 67 and will say either 66 or high end 65 due to the 11am rim ding and a couple minor snags here and there.
~SHAZAM~ That's a nice one! Grade this with a picture...I bet the luster shines like a new moon on a cloudless night. Ahhhhhh....I don't want too look like an idiot, well, not that much of an idiot, so I will anoint it a 66 with a fudge factor on the plus side. Happy Collecting.
Nah it could go 67 at NGC easily and i'd be very wrong. I dont think those guys use loupes anymore. I want a PL Walker now OP is it designated PL?
