What is FMV for an 1878-S NGC MS63 from the Binion collection?

78-S is a common date. The ideal grade would be more like MS65. In MS63, it's only worth $50-$75 without the provenance. Do you have photos?

No, just some arm's length shot I seen on craigslist. Just wondering if it would be worth more than any other '78-S just because it was in Binion's collection. And if so, why?

While the Binion collection has a cool story with it... the coins themselves were all pretty doggy.

I think ole Teddy was just after the silver weight and not the numismatic value so a lot of Binion stuff is circ... or low end mint state.

That's why I can't get the fascination. I know some collections are sought after because of pedigree, but I was under the impression he was just a hoarder.

I don't know if hoarder is the right word. He pulled silver from his casinos as they came in and stored them in several bunker-style safes in the Pahrump area. I think he was waiting to make a second profit from them. Unfortunatelly, a few others had the same idea before he got the chance.

    Sorry, Mr. Binion, no disrespect.

So, you think he was just speculating on a spike in silver prices?

I personally believe, that alot of Binions coins are sought after due to their "originality" and that is why the name sometimes brings a premium.Thats just my observation.

Some of the Binion Morgans with some toning might be worth a little extra but the pedigree itself is only valuable to those who collect strictly Binion coins.

The toning on this one should drive the price up past retail to about $50-$60. I don't know anything about Craigslist other than to say I doubt you should be buying coins there. But if the seller's coin is white, the pedigree means very little.

The only time I entertain craigslist is locally when I can meet and see the coin. He wants $75 for it. Looks like there could be some possible toning, but could be the lighting, too.

If you knew your VAMS,it might be worth a look, but if you pay a premium,it would only be for the Binion name.Unless you email em,and ask him what he would be willing to take for it.C if u can get it a bit lower
