I have a new quarter, that has a small metal strip, going from the coin onto the rim. It's hard to say what I mean. You could take a toothpick and stick under it and break it. Whats that called? I took a scan it didn't come out well, so I didn't put it on, but if any of you think it might help I will.. Pleas let me know.. Thanks, cho cho

I'm going to guess that this is some kind of post strike damage. But I'll move the post over to the Error Forum where others who know more about these things can have a look at it.

This looks like a rim burr. It's pre-strike damage. Often it seems that the damage occurs just before the strike, presumably by the feeder mechanism. However, other folks implicate the upsetting process. Regardless, what you typically end up with is a fang-like piece of metal that's derived from the edge of the planchet and is then struck into the surface of the coin.

Thank You Mike, is it a common error? Is it worth very much.

Fairly common. There's not much of a demand for rim burrs. Worth only a few dollars, in my opinion.
