I bought this yesterday, roughly one hour after it came in. My dealer holds are high grade barber coinage back and I get first shot at anything that comes through the door. Sooo, when I came in I was greeted by not only my layaway pile, but the things I might want to add. I ended up buying everything I had on layaway, this dime, and then adding 3 more coins to the layaway pile. I either need to get more money or stop loving coins so much. I'll post the other treats I bought later this week as I get the kind of pics I want out of them.

High grade Barber coinage is tough, it simply does not exist in meaningful quantities.

I agree Tom, and I believe the dimes are especially underrated/undervalued in comparison to the quarters and halves.

It looks to be Ms 65 or better . I am a bit concerned with the color, it is attractive but is it AT ?
Is the coin raw or slabbed?

The coin is def not AT, I know the source that they are coming from before they get to me. The problem is my camera is a dinky one and to get the true colors I end up shifting my light source all over the place. This is the same picture with the lighting from a completely different angle, taken just before the one with the good color.

One of these days, I'll have a room of my own, like an office, one day. until then a floor lamp and a camera on a tripod are the best I can do.

Never mind me – I am very cautious about coins with a lot of color , especially when they are raw. :) Most of my coins are toned , but all of them are certified , and of those that are certified most of the toned ones are CAC certified.

Perhaps it's the lighting and camera equipment used, but I have a leaning toward AU58 on this coin instead of the MS grade opined previously by another member.

Maybe I was overly optimistic . :hammer: I saw a lot of detail on the coin and could not pick up any high point rub but then the photos were also a bit blurry so I just took a guess.

For comparison here is my MS 66 Barber dime .

I dunno, could go either way on this one. There might be a touch of rub on the forelock but it could be toning too. Either way I think the TPGs would slab it MS.

Nice coin, BQ. Congrats on the NEWP! :)

    How's the luster?

In hand the luster is complete with one possible break on the cap, but it doesn't look like wear. On the rev the coin has muted luster under some nice steel grey toning with just a few hints of orange highlights. I have a feeling that the coin sat on some high sulfer content paper reverse side down for a number of years to get that look. I pegged the coin around MS-63 as there are some fine tics in the cheek and neck area that really didn't show up well in the photos.
