Just thought I would do a little testing of my grading - this is a 1858 large letter Flying Eagle. My guess would be fine - 12 which put it in the $34-$40 - What do you think? Looks like I need to put it in a new holder. The fuzz on both sides is from the 2x2 holder. The spots must have come from the scanner - probably oughta clean it.

I haven't had the chance to grade many FE cents but I would say VG+--maybe F but I would think the eagle would need to be alittle better.

It looks like a strong Fine to me.

    I think it's MS....um, wait. This isn't Ebay.

Reaches F12 on a stretch, to me. VG10+ Obverse and easy F12 reverse.

Upper end of VG just under F

If it was Ebay I would also have to mention that it was "scarce" and a hard to get date. Even if there were another 100 auctions for this date. :)

I think I figured out what I did wrong - the feathers on the wings is what I think drops it to VG. Guess I need more practice.

    Thanks everyone!

Using Photograde, the obverse looks upper VG but the reverse looks solid F.
