Magnetic ring. He taps the glass with the tray of coins to get the magnetic coin to stick to the bottom, then lifts the ring and the magnetic coin falls.

I understand the magnetic ring part, but how does the hand go through?

At 5:23, watch his left hand slide the 'glass' over to expose the hole.

I wouldn't know one oriental language from another - so if I offended - sorry, I am naive - just thought the trick was pretty cool especially using US coins !!

I don't think anyone has been offended Lew. My reference was to an old SNL sketch involving Chris Farley. Can't seem to find it anywhere.....

Well, now at least you can say that you do know that is was not Japanese... :)

It's important for us to cite these things correctly, especially when it comes to cultural differences, and especially the significant differences between these two major languages with their distinct cultural identities. It is every bit as important as is citing the difference of coins they were using for the magic demonstation were Kennedy halves not Walking Liberty halves, Barbers or any others. We coin collectors are pretty persnickety about minor details ya know. :) :hatch:

Let us also note that there is a difference between oriental and occidental which are contrasts and not negatives, yet the PC crowd is likely want to cite the differnce between one 'Asian' language from another as opposed to one 'oriental' language from another.

No offense indeed. Just helping to point out the correction as needed so we don't come off like a bunch of provincal rubes. :)

And that old SNL skit is a hoot and a half... very funny and good to be able to laugh at ourselves! :smile

    Indeed not Japanese... Chinese.

CCTV is an acronym for Chinese Government controlled television.

    My take on the trick...

He "supposedly" pulled 1 of the 3 out of the glass dish prior to moving the dish underneath the glass table. I don't think he did. He had a 4th palmed that was indeed probably magnetic, and tossed that down onto the top of the table.

He then took the glass dish, moved it underneath the glass table. Note that I believe there were still 3 coins in the dish, one which was of a magnetic metal. He pushed the glass dish (now underneath) up to the glass table surface, which caused the magnetic coin to grab the other magnetic coin, with the table glass sandwiched in between. When he pulled his hand away, the magnets lost proximity, and the 3rd coin dropped back into the dish.
