I've had these on my watch list for almost a year now.. every time I look at them I say the same thing.. that's a damn beautiful coin... not sure if it's just plating or something like a DC restrike... either way if the coin looks that good in hand $20 ain't that high a price :D
Watcha think of this one guys?

People are going to hate it, but it is a very nice looking color scheme on it that makes the design pop. I've always liked this look as long as the price doesnt get to high.

I really like it. I wouldn't pay $20 for one though. Maybe $12.99 to $15.I doubt the coin is in as good of a condition as the Picture shows either. I'd like to see one in hand to make a monetary decision. ;)

Agreed. I like the look of it but I also wonder if the piece in hand is as nice as the picture. If it were I might pay $20 for it.

    Sure is eye catching.
    But not something I'd want.

Cool looking for sure, but I'd ultimately put this into the "Trappings of coin collectors" category.

If it'll result in $20 worth of enjoyment for you over time, then it's worth buying. But, getting used to buying this type of thing can easily end in a room full of junk, regrets, and lost money that could have been spent on collectables that actually have value. Just have to make sure you don't slide down that slippery slope! ;)

May mantra: Collectables that were made to be collectables are not collectables. This isn't always true, but I prefer to stick to the sure things.

I believe the Ruthenium is CVD coated (Chemical Vapor Deposition), but don't quote me on that.

I'll admit that I like these as well, although I never purchased any. I worked in the materials engineering field for over 30 years and am a sucker for odd materials like ruthenium. I have an Austrian niobium coin somewhere.

As long as you're aware that you'll probably never get your initial cost out of it, I see no problem buying it if you like it. Knock your socks off

Definitely a fun coin as Exonumia.

I think it's a cool looking novelty item.

My problem is the condition. The one pictured in the first post looks like that IHC could easily be MS grade. I'm virtually 100% sure that was a cherry picked coin for the company's advertisements.

I'm also virtually 100% sure any coin we'd receive would be graded much much lower. If the company were to ruin all MS grade coins with that novelty finish there would be zero chance they could sell them for $20.

If you can buy that exonumia as a wysiwyg piece I'd be interested in buying one too. I'm guessing you can't do that. I'm sure it's pot luck. And their pot is filled with F or maybe VF pieces.

I pulled the trigger on one of those, an Eisenhower Dollar variety.

Be prepared for the underlying host coin to be at best VG with lots of scratches. The coins they advertise with are very clean MS examples. What you receive won't look that good.

Best photos I could get of the one I bought.

    It is very shiny.
