SO, I'm watchin one of those late night infomercials about the Presidental dollar series and according to the and Mr. Berman (a professional numismatist that's written several books) the US has never issued a dollar coin until these ones! what a LOAD OF BULL! how can a pro say something like this? I tell ya i'll never ever respect a thing that man says....

A lot of naive people believe everything that they hear on television.

As for the expert, he was handed a script and told to read it.

Mr. Berman: "Excuse me, but this is incorrect..."
TV Producer: "Please just read the script, or we'll get a new expert. Do you want to get paid?"
    Mr. Berman: "Oh, allright..."

Even your favorite reality programs are scripted.

  5. You have to be careful of their exact wording too, as they sometimes sneak in subtle adjectives and talk fast in doing so:

US has never issued a (golden presidential) dollar coin until these ones

I know that I'm getting off topic on this one but what happens when we get to the end of the living presidents? Does the program end? What happens at the end if we have a dead president that is after one still alive? Do they wait until the living president dies and then put out two or more coins the next year? This should be interesting. Having said all of this, I'm saving the presidential cover series as well as the presidential proof sets. Don't ask me why because I don't know. I'm also considering the purchase of ocean front property in New Mexico.

If I remember the bill correctly, the mint will only honor those presidents that have been dead for at least two years. So, I guess that means that when they get up to more current presidents, they'll stick by the rule. If the case occurs where a dead president served after the living one I imagine they will still go with the dead president and expect the collectors to leave a hole in the albums until live one takes that six foot plunge. Will the program ever end? I imagine so, but with whom or why I have no idea. Until then I'll continue collecting the P D and proofs. If I'm wrong about the bill, someone please correct me as I only glanced at it once.

I got un-lazy and decided to google search it. The act as currently written will end at Ronald Reagan in 2016. They can continue the program for other dead presidents by act of Congress. I'm not sure what they'll do with Jimmy Carter if he's still alive and kicking in 2016. It should also be noted that Grover Cleveland will get two coins for his two non-consecutive terms. Here is the link.

Every once in a while I'll turn one of those tv coin shows on. It almost never fails; within a few minutes they spout a flat-out lie.

This stuff really ticks me off

WHATS THE NUMBER i HAVE MY CELL IN MY HAND, WHERE IS THE NUMBER

I see these things and I change the channel. I feel horrible about those people that buy this crap. I have heard so many stories of people buying this stuff and loosing so much money when they go to cash it in.

I am wondering if any collective group has tried to put an end to there schemes? I mean is there a way to protect the uninformed to some degree? There are thoughts going through my mind but is there a law on the books, if not maybe there should be?

Just my thoughts, yeah it ticks me off hearing of this crap. I never have nor will I ever buy anything coin related off of TV, a magazine ad (unless it is a numismatic related magazine). I would suggest all of us make sure we inform relatives, friends etc not to fall for this. i am sure most if not all of us already have.

Sorry for blowing off some steam there but I think you get the picture.

    Regards,
    Stan
