It has been a fairly long search to find a Hawaii Quarter with the look I like. This coin spoke to me when and I was intent on winning the bid. I paid a premium but am happy to have done so. What do you all think it graded?
Reverse is a 64 or higher, but I think the obverse brings this one down. Giving it a 63 (but I wouldn't be offended by a +).
That was a first consideration, but field marks like this one are on the lower portions of the coin and the design and high points are untouched, i.e., have no wear. No wear = uncirculated, not Almost Uncirculated. Many coins in circulation are uncirculated coins as far as grade goes. Now this coin may have circulated a tiny bit and gotten marks on the field in that experience, but because you are not seeing wear on it, it means it is in the MS60 and up category.
This one is a nice MS 62 that wouldn't look out of place in a 63 holder. As @ToughCOINS and @Mainebill guessed, I saw prooflike qualities from these photos and bid strong. In hand, it does come close to being prooflike and that made me glad I won it!
