This might be a stupid question, but I am wondering what people think.

The haves and dollars are not struck for circulation in 2005, and the Mint set coins are satin finish. Are the rolls and bags of these coins available from the Mint in the old "business strike" finish? If so, are there sleepers in the making?

I am wondering if most people will buy the Mint set to get their half and dollar this year, meaning that a non-satin coin will be a separate and perhaps rare version.

Since the business strike coins and coins struck for mint sets are manufactured with different methods - no, they are not the same. The only coins with the satin finish are those found in the mint sets.

Just in case, I ordered a pair of '05 Kennedy rolls from the Mint. I also plan to get some additional '05 mint sets to put away, in anticipation of prices going up, due to the first year of the satin finish.

It is my understanding, at this time, the Mint has halted all new orders for the 2005 Mint sets. Stand back and watch the first ever satin mints sets go thru the roof. Large numbers of mint sets have been cut apart for individual coins so the full sets are probably going to be the best thing that has happened this year. Prices will start climbing very quickly if indeed the Mint has halted production orders.

Straight from the US Mint Website

Folks better get their orders in quickly for the 05 Unc sets. Jim

He is the statement wording directly from the mint website:

To ensure the broadest and most fair access to the 2005 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set, a limit of 10 sets per order and per household has been imposed for all orders. This limit will remain in effect until our inventory is depleted.

For guaranteed order fulfillment and delivery of this product, your order must be placed by December 1, 2005. Orders may still be placed until December 25, 2005, but the United States Mint cannot guarantee shipment and orders may be cancelled.

    rambozo,
The silver sets are proofs..the satin sets are UNC mint,so there will be no silver satins.
