Hey guys, I'm thinking of making a piece of jewelry out of a coin for my wife. I want it to be about the size of a U.S. Quarter. Can you suggest something aesthetically pleasing of the correct size that is made out of silver and isn't really expensive? No rarities please...just beauty and the correct size. Thanks, Steve
Standing Liberty Quarter Type 1 (You asked for it) Seriously, go with a 90% State quarter. I like the one with the Statue of Liberty on it, but I am biased.
US quarter size 24.26mm 1/4 oz Libertad size 27mm Not very expensive and imo quite pleasing to the eye not my auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/1-4-oz-2007-Mexican-Libertad-Proof-Silver-in-capsule_W0QQitemZ170470973475QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_Bullion?hash=item27b0dca023
Since its going to be a personal gift for your wife, I would find out what she Like,s throw some hints around, You really dont want something she isnt going To like, You can keep the coin theme, Just find one with a cool pic on it, Just An idea! How about a state quarter with her birth state on it?
What about a 1 gulden coin from the Netherlands? Between 1954 and 1967* they had a diameter of 25 mm and were made of silver (Ag 720). http://worldcoingallery.com/countries/img5/130-184.jpg They were not made in every year, but you have a few to choose from. Fairly common, thus not expensive ... Christian (* The 1967 piece can be either Ag or CuNi.)
What about something like this? http://www.differencecoin.com/catalog/countries/united_states.html It lists 13 pages of numismatic jewelry. Chris
If you are going to make it by hand (tapping it with a spoon method) I would use a cheap damaged or holed barber quarter.:hammer:
