I am envious I am envious that you have that many wheats all sorted by date. Check the cents dated 1957-D and see how many die chips, RPMs, and doubling you can find. In this thread, I reported finding that 25% of my coins dated 1957-D were keepers. http://www.cointalk.com/t61588/
I checked out that thread & I too have noticed LOTS of 1957-D filled dates. It doesn't look like anyone ever replied to your question about the 1956 oddities , the coins with that same chip at the bottom of the "6". What do you use for your magnified photos ?
I just aim my camera down the eyepiece of my binocular microscope. I just try to hold the camera steady & press the shutter release. Someday, I will make a tube that fits over the microscope eyepiece & supports the camera. The illumination is either from a ring light or from a fiber optic illuminator from one direction.
Just found another 1956-D RPM While sorting through a 17 pound bag of 40's & 50's Wheats I bought from my local coin dealer , I have found many oddities and a couple of new RPM's. Well within the last 20 minutes I found my 2nd 1956D-1MM-001 & this time it is in better condition. Do you agree ? Now that I am a little more informed , this appears to be MDS due to the die scratchs running throught the "C" of CENT on the rev are identical to those shown on coppercoins.com !
nice! now i need to search all mine for rpm's. i got them sorted by decade just like you so it shouldn't be that bad. i also got them separated by mm. so i will have rolls of 50's-P and 50's-D.
