One series that I never finished, or rather decided to abandon, was the German colonies series. The reason, because I could never get the red Dansco album. I have 30 % of the coins.
These coins interest me both because I love colonies and because they are so obscure. I see the East Africa coins once in awhile but the New Guinea and Chinese are much rarer. Are there any other places I'm missing?
The Dansco album for the German colonies covers the coins of East Africa (The Company 1890-1894), (The Colony 1904-1916), including coins with modified reverse design, (The Provisional issues 1916), the coins of New Guinea and the province of Kiau Chau.
I'm assuming that I not the only one out there that can't afford the 2019 S enhanced reverse proof ASE. My reverse proof ASE set will never be completed.
When I was young, I set about to build a set of pre-revolution Cuban coinage. I liked the designs, and I had an old Cuban guy who sort of mentored me when I was a teen (and gave me a coin). My budget at the time was much smaller than my ambition, so I abandoned it. I occasionally consider re-tackling it, but I'm already stretched too thin between different collections. I still have the coin he gave me, though:
This is actually one of my favorite sets; not too pricey, actually, as long as you're willing to forego the gold pieces!
