    What in the environment could possibly have put a line around Lincoln's silhouette so perfectly?

    A human being…they are part of the environment…someone scribed a line creating that damage…and it wasn’t done perfectly…they gave up when they got to the nose…imo…Spark

    Just look at the mess around the nose.

    I have a 1937 with similar lines around the profile. More precise and complete.

    The 1937 that I posted above appears to be die deterioration rather than damage.

    I actually used to do that stuff when I was just a youngster.

    you always wonder ... did I do that to that coin ??
    nowadays I would just use that scribe, a hammer and punch a hole through it. :)
