Hello everyone. I just started collecting coins and found this in some change back from Walmart. I was wondering what the value might be if any. also if you could help me identify any errors. any information is appreciated. Thank you.
Hey Patrick, welcome to collecting! Unfortunately, your cent doesn't have much collectable value above face (1 cent). It is pre-1983 though, so it contains around 2.5 cents worth of copper. So, I guess there's that
Ahh I see. that's a little disappointing since it's the best-looking penny I have gotten back in my change. Oh, it looks like I forgot to ask about errors. I updated my post but thank you for the information
It does not have any errors. It appears plated to me. Which would have happened after it left the mint.
Hey, welcome to CT. If it were a 1936, it would have a value above face, but a 1963 is pretty much face value unless it is an exceptional coin. Yours appears to have been harshly cleaned because of the grainy surface appearance. Truly MS (mint state) coins would have much flatter surfaces.
Thank you for the information. it just looked very different from all the other coins I have ever gotten back so I wanted to make sure. thanks again
Hi.. If you have any future error questions try the Error Coins forum here on CoinTalk. No mint errors on your Cent. Welcome to CoinTalk
You have a normal $.01 cent coin from 1963. It was taken care of but not worth much over face value. Welcome to CT.
ahh yes. I'm sorry. I didn't realize I accidentally put 1936 instead of 1963. I will do my best not to make that mistake again. Thank you for the information. it helps me learn!
Ahh I understand. when I saw it, the color caught my attention, then I noticed the "lib" in liberty then I saw the "we trust" didn't look right to me but I don't know enough about coins yet to say one way or the other, so it made me want to ask about it.
Actually it looks like it's been recently sand blasted. I sand blasted coins back in the late 80's since I had a friend who had access to his dad's sand blaster. The coins we sand blasted would look just like that after we were done.
