Tripal die cent

I bought this off of an ole boy he said he got this out on a mint roll what is your take on this coin i paid 30 bucks for it












i am not to good at all with pics but this is the coin and the reverse of it

not a trial die strike. might not even be an error but need better pics to be sure. From what I can see it looks like a hammer job.

Exactly. I would take that coin back. It's one thing for a dealer to not know or to be mistaken about what he has, but it sounds like this one lied to you because that definitely did not come from a mint roll.

I have to agree with the hammered coin theroy, unless I can see close up pics to better determine. Some where posted on this forum , a couple years back, I posted a similiar (thought to be) error coin that you might want to look at.
