I got this strange penny in a roll today

    It is extremely shiny like a proof almost but it has a D mint mark. Is there anything special about it, should I hold onto it? Thanks,

    Looks like a science project.

    Don't breath a lot around it. Could be mercury.

    looks plated, probably through electrolysis, just like we used to do in science class.

    Mercury would be my guess, but I would suspect that they could do the same thing with zinc.

    Coin appears to have been elctroplated, but well worth keeping. Thanks for sharing :)

    it looks plated.there were a bunch of cents plated and put into special displays.

    I concur with others. Looks plated to me too.

    I also seem to also recall doing something like this in science class, as bqcoins said.
