GTG - a little difficult to photograph so I did it with incandescent light (first set of pictures) and in sunlight (second set of pictures). I'm also interested to hear your thoughts about the toning. Incandescent light: Sunlight:
That's got a nice old skin on that one. I wouldn't call it gem, I just don't think that is contact on the obv. But think they called it a 65.
There's a lot to see through but it appears to be a technical MS principally on the hair detail coming across above the ear on these superbly-struck specimens. I'm at MS-64 on it as well.
It looks like it might be part of the group I’ve seen on eBay lately in the newer PCI holders with high grades of MS 66. I think it’s closer to a 63 (borderline 64) and the color is somewhat questionable.
I'm at MS63 but the toning concerns me. It looks like that coin may be a couple of shades away from terminal surface damaging toning. JMTC. Is that a clash above Miss Liberties head?
I agree with you. This is where this coin came from and in hand the toning looks quite questionable (more so than the seller's pictures even). I do think it is a 63-64 as well - definitely not a 65. I read that this later generation of PCI holders was known for overgrading and slabbing some coins that would be details in other TPG holders. I currently collect 81-S Morgans in various holders so that was why I picked this one up. Otherwise I would have passed on it. Thanks to all who chimed in - Mike
Despite not saying it's in a PCI holder (which this guy did ), I'll give you credit for getting the MS 65 (which I did not ).
Thanks I’m hoping I can remember that tid bit. That forever will be my focal point. Got to start somewhere
You been doing ok. No reward. You lack the experience that I have getting grades wrong. You can work on that
