What do you experts think of this coin -- is it a counterfeit? It's up for auction here but the auction house is in Thailand (1 bad review and no good reviews). There are 2 other interesting coins in the same auction (one, two) that also look suspicious.
Agree, totally 100% fake, no doubt. Style is off, lack of detail in the hair as compared with genuine specimens, and the smooth edges all give it away. Red flags raised from looking at the auction house description include the lack of details about the coin (ie exact mint date and ruler, provenance, etc). The other thing is that all three coins look like they were manufactured using exactly the same process, with the same poor quality details and flan, even though they should have been minted in very different locations and during different periods of time. Just because it's being auctioned by an auction house doesn't make the coin authentic, although I would definitely be much less worried about reputable auction houses. A dubious "auction house" from Thailand would definitely raise suspicion. Caveat emptor.
