    My first Anglo Saxon penny.

Aethelred II Long Cross Penny Minted In London By Aethelweard. The legend on the reverse reads "+EDE LPER DMO LVND".

    Dating..997-1003.

Frank, not a good idea to be including your e-mail addy at the post end, unless you want to leave yourself open to spammers. They do troll these forums.

Interesting coin you have there ......:smile

Cool coin Frank - but how much pocket money did that one set you back?

Well, it was in a lot of coins that I paid £326 for. The lot contained 21 hammered coins. I've just found out I have an Edward II Bury St Edmund's penny in with the lot and I think thats worth about £30-40 so I haven't actually paid a lot for the Aethelred penny. anyway sorry for going on...I probably paid between £100-120 for it but these coins go for around £120 (if damaged, pierced) - £200+

The lot of 21 coins contains a lot of nice coins...

OK nice going!...Especially if the rest of that lot included those pennies you uploaded in another post.

It included some really nice stuff...an edward III half groat and an elizabeth I sixpence aswell...I got a great deal.

Those alone are about £30 each on ebay

Very nice! The only Anglo-Saxon coins I have are Northumbrian stycas:
