Can anyone identify this piece ? A friend of mine sent these pictures after a coin club meeting. It has medal orientation, but low relief and circulation wear which suggests it's a coin.
Im not a foreign guy,but I reallly dig that obverse.Looks like very early middle eastern.would be my guess due to the writing.
I'd be really surprised if this was anything old. It looks like a modern commemorative medal of some kind, celebrating King David. The obverse says, "David, son of Jesse, King of Israel". My husband identified the reverse as Psalms 49:4. It's in Hebrew. There are some letters on the bottom of the harp that I can't read. So you need to find some Israeli coin/medallion web site? It is rather worn to be a medallion, but there isn't any sign that it is money --- no denomination.
? Never seen this before as well. I am very familiar with most issues of The Shekel and I do not believe there has ever been a mention of it. I would like this in my collection. If you ultimately find out any more information...please post. Mike
I have this coin/medal also. Mine is in much finer condition. The name of the Engraver is on the coin. It is Barre. he was master engraver at Paris mint in 1800's. On the edge of mine it is engraved David Paris 1827. Anyone know what this item is made of??
Psalm 49:4 The reverse reads: אַטֶּה לְמָשָׁל אָזְנִי, אֶפְתַּח בְּכִנּוֹר חִידָתִי - in English: I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
