I asked about this coin when it was in a lot. I am just checking, is this an 1864-L?

It's the best I can do. I could try a scan but this is the best I can do with my phone.

The L is small and could have been worn off. Check the coin for this:

Well. Have you ever tried it this way? You can use a jar or can instead of the books. ;)

There is a way to tell without the "L". The bust is pointy.

The subject coin looks like it has the pointed bust. That would make it a 1864 L

The 1864 L has a pointed bust. The non-L coin has a rounded bust. Here are the two in my collection of each type. Yours looks kinda pointy to me.

    L-type first:

I have a few rounded busts and compared to them mine looks pointy. That is why I bid on the lot because I needed 1864-L and the 1872 in the lot. I have a Indian Head cent Whitman book. Your coins look good and I can see the "L" on your 1864-L.

I have mine in the Whitman book too. Started it in 1948 and still using it.

I think that it probably is an 1864-L because of the shape of the bust, but the standard has long been that the "L" must show, even if it is a poor representation of the letter.
