Hey guys, Heres another hammered coin I picked up for only £12. Edward II and its minted in London (1307AD – 1327). EDWA ANGL DNS HYB (Edward Of England Lord Of Ireland) Civitas London (City Of London). If anyone could add any other information about it, I'd be very thankful. Very fine coin! Sorry for the bad picture, didn't take it in natural light so it won't show the coins full detail. Let me know what you think
I collect pretty much anything coin related. Ill get some in time. Been enjoying your pic posts though, keep it up!
LOL he meant by the edges. american numismatics are very very particular about any crud.dirt,or debris on coins. But your coins are so old,the more dirt the better looking.
This is why I don't like modern coins as much. Whats the point in having a coin if you can't touch it... Mad, read my pm.
Some things are too beautiful to be touched (ex: buffalo proof AGB) I like to get them in slabs so I can get really close to touching them though
Thats the point, I'd never buy out of my own money a coin that I could never touch. I got bought a sovereign and I don't even want it because I can't touch it. I might as well melt it down as scrap. Modern coins do not appeal to me, a coin from say 1942 doesn't make me go wow no matter what it is because I think to myself the guy that first touched it could still be alive but when you look at my Edward II penny the possibilities are endless on who could of touched it and what they could of bought with it. Its hard to explain I probably make no sense.
Everybody has their own way of thinking, and collecting,I never looked at it that way,But thats really cool.I like "out of the ordinary" I myself are, strange & unusual
Yeah, I guess my grandfathers way of collecting has passed on to me. Although he is a hypocrite you should see the uncirculated stuff he has, I'm going to get him to join this forum!
I like to hold very old coins too, but I do so by the edges. Coins that are in MS and such I dont touch but cleaned, damaged, & so on I have no problems doing so. It is fun to think who may have help the coin/s and what stories it could tell.
Holding them by the edges is best. I also get a kick of 600 year old coins that flawless , stayed in various collection cabinets and trinket box of various collectors over the years that kept the piece in MS condition all it's life. Or a coin that paid a beer in a medieval ale house or bought some far away arts from a merchant fun stuff
You make a lot of sense. It is nice that you have found coin collecting. Your imagination and intellect make a very nice combination. I enjoy reading your posts. Sorry to admit, but you might not like my coins. What makes me go Wow, probabley would not work for you.
