OH Holy Crap! The greens and blues on that thing are just STUNNING! I don't know what else to say, I just curled up in the fetal position and wept for joy.

Depends on what and where but the 2 cent peice is the first coin. so 1864. There is a pattern there to that say's "In God Our Trust" I was offered it once but it was just to pricey for me...but I still dream of it :D

    Yes, they are !

I don't have my book. Is J-294 struck in copper ?

These early proofs do wild things with color.

I'd like to learn more about surface chemistry as to why the old proofs are so different from business strikes. I'd like to know why certain series have almost no cameos (2c, Buff 5c, Merc 10c, Walk 50c).

Did you change your mind about keeping this coin? I know you had it for sale twice recently on ebay and thought it might have sold.

It was a pattern dollar that was struck in a special gold, silver, copper alloy. Here's a good link for more.

There are a fair number of goloid pieces. The link to USPatterns will give you much more information on these.

Oh Stop It !!! You're KILLIN' ME over here ! ;)

Seems like there was a phrase goin' around years ago "whip me, beat me, make me write bad checks". Put up one or two more like that one, and I'll be over the edge fo sho !
