I was doing some attributions today for some Mass Cents that I just obtained.

    Have a Ryder 4-D specimen.

Noticed on pg.200, "Ryder 4 Bowed Head Obverse", that the book references "W-7110" for a Ryder 4-D. There is no "W-7110" in the book! On pg.206 there's a matching "W-6110" for Ryder 4-D.

    :desk:

Has anyone else noticed this [frustrating] error in the book?

There are a lot of errors in the book. There was a listing of errors on one of the colonial coin mailing lists. I was planning on getting a copy of the book until I saw just how many there were, now I am waiting to see if there is a revised second printing.

Ah, glad to hear that. I will wait as well for a 2nd edition.

Perhaps folks may have misinterpreted my OP as a complete thumbs down of the book. It wasn't meant to be that!

The only error that I believe I've encountered thus far were the Whitman numbers referenced in my original post.

*It should be noted that all of the Whitman numbers for the Massachusetts 1787 Cent appear to have the same type of problem.

Other than that, for me, the book has been terrific. I've used it a ton of times to attribute my Vermonts, New Jerseys, Novas, Rosas, etc...

Plus I think it's easier to use for quick reference than Breen's unabridged "boat anchor", and IMO is generations ahead from Durst's book attempt in 1976.

Sorry, no listing. Members on either the C4 or Colonial Numismatic mailing list or both would send in the misattributions they found. I am sot sure if any real comprehensive listing was put together. I was going to get the book and make corrections in it, but the number of misattributions got way higher than I was comfortable with correcting. There were literally dozens as I recall, mostly wrong photos and misattributions. Not a complete cut down of the book, but I would definitely back up any attributions with another source.
