    .
Another C/S coin found me. I do not think this is a period Counter-stamped coin.
I think the C/S was done after this coin was taken out of circulation due to there being no dirt and tarnish build up inside the letters.
Would you agree that my assumption is correct?

Counter stamped coins were done to advertise. It wouldn’t make any sense to mark them after the coin was removed from circulation.

That is what I also thought. I think someone C/Sed this coin hoping to increase its value.
Don't you think the C/Sed letters should have circulation debris in them like the OP coin?

I don't think the coin circulated much after it was stamped but just because there's only small amounts of debris in the letters doesn't mean it didn't circulate at all. The toning is the more important factor. Both coin and counterstamp are toned equally...no shiny metal showing through.

This wouldn't be an advertising piece as the initials LC don't advertise anything. More likely a personal piece of some sort.

Also the punch styles are very old...definitely 19th century.

We have no way of knowing what happened with the coin after it was counter stamped. How much circulation did it receive and under what conditions?

The stamp is LC, as in Lee and Crane, owners of L and C Coins. Hard to say what they stand for.

Sometimes you can make a guess about the age of a counterstamp by comparing the wear on the coin with the wear on the stamp. It's a real longshot though but might give you a general timeframe to consider. That's about as close as you'll get.

The pushed metal that is around the stamped letter make little high spot, and this coin has no wear in these spots. I do not think this coin circulated since it was counter-struck.
Thank you both for your help and knowledgeable insight.
