Admittedly, I am an old fashioned guy who wants to believe everyone's motives are above board... The pragmatic side of me has to kick me in the rearend daily to wake me up. Been filling a three cent nickel book and I'm down to those last couple of hard to find holes... One hole is the 1885 and I take a few minutes while eating lunch to plug into Ebay and see if any have shown up and I find two impaired proofs. One bid ends in a day. The other ends in three days... I size them both up finding it odd the seller in both listings is holding the coin with blue gloves..... Wait a second... That's the same seller... HEY!! That's the same coin!!! What kind of funny business is going on here?? Two listings... Ending on two different days for the same coin? What kind of Ebay shenanigans are going on here?
Accidental duplication of lots? Happens more often than you think, especially if the seller is using a bulk upload tool.
I see that all the time and have reported it, as well a 2005 Jefferson nickel that the seller has hyped up and has for sale at $1400. And of course you get lip service from ebay oh Thank you for reporting...yet the listing still stands. Best of all you cannot talk to anyone at ebay any longer..at one time you could actually speak to a human being.
I saw something like that a couple days ago. One was a legitimate seller, and the other had just stolen their pictures.
If they're both from the same seller, I'm guessing it's a glitch in their listing process. Buy the cheaper one.
I sent the guy a note and asked the question. We will see what he says. I could sure use an 1885 thrickle. It would certainly help to calm my OCD tendencies.
I have also seen this a time or two. I know how it feels when it concerns a coin you really want bad. The reply to your message one way or the other will probably take care of your OCD tendencies.
If an eBay seller creates a promoted listing, an item may show up twice in search results, one of which is the ad with a "promoted" tag.
If it's the same seller and they have good feedback, I'd be inclined to believe it was either a glitch or accidentally listing the same coin twice. It could be nefarious (seeing which auction does better and selling to that bidder) but I'm guessing it's most likely just a mistake.
