Doubled Ear 1998D Cent ...... ?

    I am still learning, like most of us, so i am sorry if this coin is just like the others :)

    I found this coin while looking through a bag of cents... Its a 1998D cent. It looks like there is a second ear. I cant find anything like it on the internet.....

    It doesn’t look like a double ear to me. Looks kinda like he has a hearing aid.
    It could be two die cracks forming an odd shape or some sort of die gouges. I can see the hair detail in between the raised lines.

    This appears to be a retained interior die break. A piece of the die face broke off and sank into the surrounding softer metal. The result is a slightly elevated plateau of metal on the coin. Retained interior die breaks are most commonly found among the many "cracked skull" Lincoln cents of the 1950's and early 1960's, but they occur in other years.
