I just bought this coin on ebay and it looks like its almost 2 coins thick, idk let me know what you think.
nice coin! :thumb: it looks real. and as the post before said, copper-nickel cents issued between 1857 and 1864 were thicker than post-1864 bronze cents.
Cool thanks guys i was reading about them being thicker after i made the post. I was just kinda worried, but what would you grade it and the value of it. Thanks
your pics are a little too blurry to make out the details of and give a guess. can you post some clearer pics?
I dont have my copy of ANA grading standards in front of me right now, and I'm not very fluent in IHCs, but per the 2011 Red Book* (and its qualifiers alone): "F12 - LIBERTY mostly visible VF20 - Slight but even wear on LIBERTY" IMO, LIBERTY is entirely visible, but more than slightly worn. So at first glance, I would put it at F12 Choice (F15). *A Guidebook of United States Coins 2011, R.S. Yeoman, (c)2010, pg.110
2011 Red Book* lists the Retail Pricing, at the time of printing, as the following: F12: $25 US VF20: $60 US *A Guidebook of United States Coins 2011, R.S. Yeoman, (c)2010, pg.110
Talon - to reiterate - those cited numbers are pursuant to retail pricing. If you are interested in pursuing numismatics as a hobby, I encourage you to obtain copies of the Red Book (as cited in my previous posts), and also the "Blue Book", which is offered by the same publisher.
You should see the higher grade ones, they look & feel even bigger.I would agree on the grade it looks just shy of the VF with the bit of corrosion.if you really want to get picky you can always visit the photograde.http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/
