1955 Washington Quarter Confusion

Discussion in 'US Coins Forum' started by Charles Brooks, Oct 10, 2022.

  1. Recently purchased a set of two Gem Perfect Full Luster 1955 D Washington quarters on Ebay (I'll post pics if the need arises) One was marked "Type A" the other marked "Type B" on the back of the mylar flips. I have spent hours online trying to find samples of each to see exactly what is the difference between these coins and have drawn a blank everywhere I have gone. Does anybody out here in CoinTalk land know anything at all about these coin types? Whats the difference? Can anyone point me to the right website? Any help would be really appreciated folks.....so thanks in advance

Until 1956 Variety A was used on circulation strikes, and Variety B was used on proofs.
You could have an early transitional reverse.
But logic says that you have a proof quarter and a Business strike Quarter.
