I have some Greathouse silver art bars that I have some questions on. I bought these back in the late 80’s or early 90’s. They have been sitting in my safe since then.

    They are

Bambi’s 40th anniversary with a matching bronze bar.

    Bambi’s 40th anniversary

    Donald’s 45th anniversary

Three little pigs with a matching bronze bar

    Three Little Pigs

I do have a Fourth edition of “A complete guide book of silver art bars”, so I could look them up there. But the book is old. I wish I had a newer one.

    There was 250 Bambi’s, 225 Donald’s, and 70 Three Little Pigs made.

    Now for the following questions.

What are they worth now days if I wanted to sell them? How much more are they worth with matching bronze bars? The serial numbers on the silver and bronze bars match. Does the serial number on the bar matter in higher resell? Because on the Donald’s one, the serial number is 000001.

    Thank you.

My opinion. The majority of people really only want to pay silver value for bars. But there are fanatics of Art bars. With the right timing, and the right person I have seen them go for a pretty good price. But to put an actual price ,couldnt say,

The GreatHouse mint silver art bars do very well on ebay. Do an ebay search by typing in "GreatHouse Mint silver bars" in the ebay search function and you will see what ebay sellers are pricing these GreatHouse bars for. These are very hard to find and when there is an ebay auction for a GreatHouse Mint silver art bar, the winning bid is usually between $100 and $150.

If you decided that you want to sell them, then ebay is the best choice to sell the GreatHouse Mint silver art bars.

That depends on why a person is buying silver bars. If a person is buying silver as an investment or for prepping for SHTF, then a person should aim for buying silver for the lowest premium possible. If a person is buying silver bars to collect them, then that is a different story. For example, when you are dealing with old silver art bars, you are dealing with rarity values and collectors are looking for bars to add to their collection.

The key to buying silver art bars, especially '70's silver art bars, is to buy them from dealers who treat them (and price them) the same like other .999 generic silver bullion.

I am a silver art bar collector and I have had some luck in the past of buying some silver art bars for between $0.75 to $2 over spot silver at my local coin dealer and at local coin shows. I prefer to buy old '70's silver art bars for the lowest premium that I can get them at. In my experience, buying silver art bars at local coin shows has been my best method of buying silver art bars at the lowest premium over spot silver.

With that said, There is a rare occasion that I am willing to pay a higher premium (to an extent) for certain silver art bars. It just depends on the silver art bar that I am looking to collect.

When it comes to silver art bar buying, a person has to do resaerch and to know what they are buying.

Thats why I said that most people want to pay silver value. But on ebay, like we both agree, the right person, the right time.the right premium.Good luck for whatever you decide.

hiho off to work we go

I am sure that there are a number of collectors out there who would pay a decent premium for a #1 serial number bar.
