Clash marks ? Feeder finger wouldnt only be in the lower spots on the coin. They be over all devices. Why arent the higher surfaces not scratched?
These are finger feeder marks. The marks will only be on the “lower” part of the coin. These lower parts are raised on the actually die so since the feeder fingers scrap along the dies surface it’ll be scraping the raised areas and not the “higher” ones which are incuse in the die design but in relief on the coin itself.
Makes sense, to be honest as an variety and error collector...I've never have seen this on a coin. In fact I've never found a cud ! Yet paid off an 10 k auto loan with bags of searched nickels back in 1981. You explanation was quite good btw. As it never dawned on me not thinking about the die surface. However learn something new daily has always been my goals.
