Good evening. I'm looking to update a list of recommended online dealers specializing in better date, quality and especially key date classic coins. Add proofs to the list and dealers like this would really shine in my book. I don't purchase a LOT of coins, but the slow trickle of ones I DO purchase (on my limited budget) are long-term keepers. Who has some dealers to recommend? Thanks!!
Auction houses and even eBay. Many of the coins that end up in such inventories are sourced through other sales. Some of it depends on the price points youre looking at. If you're looking at 5 and 6 figure coins then yes a Legend of David Lawrence type place would be helpful (auctions would still be important), but if its a couple hundred youd likely just be getting upcharged for something the a dealer bought from a source you should be looking at
My dealer, Gus, gets me anything I want, including furs, jewelry and electronics. Find him at Augostino's Pizzeria and Restorante, Elmwood Park, Harlem at Grand, back table, most nights.
Everyone mentioned good to deal with. Know Gerry well or I did. I kind of dropped of the face of the earth in coin circles a couple years ago. I’ve done plenty of business with Rare coins NH David Kahn Gerry northeast and Liz both buying and selling.
L & C Coins in Los Alamitos, Ca. I've been buying from them for years and they always have high end stuff on their website. Lots of stuff I couldn't afford on my best day. But their best benefit to me is that they have a layaway. 20% down and the rest over the next 4 months
Classic quality coins: 1) eyeappealingcoins.com 2) reedededge.com 3) northeastcoin.com …and last but not least check out toughcoins.com for rarities. @ToughCOINS
Lots of good dealers cited here. Don’t forget David Lawrence of Virginia Beach. Fee-free auctions on Sunday and will negotiate fairly on stock .
Absolutely agree with these three. Dave Kahn is one of my gurus. Takes the time to know my goals and understand my point of view, educating me in the finer points both of coins and of the coin market. He recently helped me broker a significant (for me) purchase from another dealer I wasn't acquainted with. Dave knew what perspective that dealer brought to his coins (i.e., what attributes he prized), knew what I valued, and knew how to interpret all of that and make a good recommendation. Top notch. Liz Coggan is wonderful to deal with; she keeps a lot of what I care about in stock and is always super friendly, looking out for my wantlist. Whenever we have made deals, in both directions, she's decisive, efficient, trusting and trustworthy. My friend Melissa at JJ Teaparty hasn't posted a lot of my babies (capped bust half dimes) lately so we don't talk as often, but they get some sweet coins from time to time and Melissa seems to get exactly what I'm looking for, and will give me a detailed read-out on the coins in hand. Last shout-out to David Lawrence, although after I narrowed my goals I haven't dealt with them as much as before when my ambitions were "broad yet shallow." Great folks there, good website with buy-it-nows and auctions. Good selection for people at all levels. I haven't bought any car stereos offa Gus lately. @eddiespin
