i found this at work a while ago and just found it again im not a collector but new this was an error..i would like to know what you think i can get for this here is a pic
Are the letters on the reverse up on the bent part or just next to it? I can't tell from the picture.
you can read all the lettering the bent part is only on the rim. i added another pic...is this a common error for this coin
I'm no expert but it looks to me like a partial capped die strike. I don't even know for sure that that exists. If it isn't that then its post-mint damage. Maybe one of the experts'll chime in.
any more help,i would like to know what type of error this is and is it rare or should i just give it away or hold on to it
Hello, I am no error collector, but for what i see, yes it does appear to be an error. What I would suggest is going to a local coin dealer to see what they say, or looking at an error coin book. You should be able to find one at a local library. Good luck. Regards, Stan
I think these are referred to as excessive pressure strikes. The pressure of the strike was so great that it allowed metal to escape between the collar and the dies and left a high wire rim. I'd consult Mike Diamond to make sure that my information is correct (I'm just pulling this out of my brain). Neat piece.
