I will probably be reselling this coin, but I am not sure as I do have a small collection of Byzantine Empire gold coins. It seems in pretty nice condition to me, but is it worth sending to NGC?
Regardless of anything else, the surfaces are messed up - I think it might come back in a body bag as tooled. As such, no... sell it on if you can.
Sorry but I wouldn't bother slabbing it as the value of it would not increase with the grade it is likely to attract and if it comes back as tooled or details you will probably have decreased its worth.
I have to agree, looks polished to me. I collect this emperor since his coinage was the earliest I have found to list Christopher, (Xristofer), on a coin on some issues. Some silver coins have Stephen as well.
Agree with input above, looks polished. In my experience a difficult issue to find in superlative condition. Here is mine, not perfect but not polished so far as I can tell, for comparison. Ignore the Theophilus from Syracuse on the left, it’s almost preternaturally sharp. The obverse of the Constantine VII is a bit muddled from a shaky strike, note the doubling more apparent in the lettering, but the other side is really good.
