    Good morning, all...

I have looked in vain for a way to over-ride this seemingly arbitrary limit...I note that others have found ways around it, but the solution still escapes me.

I'm leery of opening two threads, or replying to my original thread, in order to share enough pics.

I promise not to abuse the privilege, if granted. Thanks!

I don't know if there is a work-around or not, and it has been an occasional problem for me on other forums. I think 5 is an arbitrary number that should be reconsidered. Who would want to post photos of 2-1/2 coins.

By the way, I like your avatar.

The limit is 5 per post. There is not limit per thread. I have no idea why you are leery of " replying to my original thread". 9 replies make 50 pictures.

BTW, the way around it is to put you pictures in photobucket or equivalent and post the links as [IMG]

Chris...looks like you've got one, too. I got mine in an 'antique' store about ten years ago...the fellow thought it was a BI-Centennial...I gave $6 for it.

If you look into the ANS file on it, there's a note that says only a very few were struck...or it did a few years ago. Not so, as there were at least 12K struck in Bronze. Mine has lost it's presentation case...but I love it anyway. Thanks...

Well...That's a relief! The 'leery' has to do with a sense of neatness...and not wishing to abuse the forum out of ignorance. I'll take your counsel, though I don't think I need photobucket or other image-hosting...not yet, anyway. So: look in World Coins for my next post...

I picked mine up at the FUN Show about 4 years ago. I spotted it in a dealers case from about 5'-6' away, but there was a couple in front of the case looking at everything. I didn't know if they were just browsing or buying, so I made my way alongside them and craned my neck as if I were looking at something on the far side of the case. They eventually slid down to the next case, and I asked the dealer to pull it out for me. He had a price tag of $195 on it, and I offered him $160 which he accepted. Believe me, I got a good deal, and you were fortunate to be able to cherrypick yours. Good for you! It didn't have the presentation case either.

By the way, it has a 90% copper core clad with bronze.

What an interesting bit of minutia, Chris! Where did you pick that tidbit up? wlw

About three years ago, I hooked up with a collector/author who specialized in coins and medals of the U. S. centennial. He was able to give me a lot more detail, but I can't seem to find my printed copy of the e-mail. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of stored info when my system became corrupted last year. I also recall that he gave me mintage figures, and I think they were lower than what you reported but I'm not positive.

It is an 1876 Centennial Commission Award. ANS 1954.32.1 and also shown at the top of the page here: http://www.expomedals.com/1876/

That is, if you're asking about my avatar. wlw
