I wish I could get better pictures with this camera. But it just won't let me. I know in part the die was worn but why would it be raised on obverse side and nothing on reverse? Just asking! Let's see what the experts say. Not the expert imposters on Google. They all can't be right! 20221004_191204.jpg 20221004_191204.jpg 20221004_191308.jpg

Its a ridge ring. Form of die deterioration common to copper plates zinc cents

The obverse die was more worn than the reverse.

Short and sweet. Just like I like-um!
I have others with a ridge ring. But not raised up like this one! Wish I could find my My micrometer.

Your ridge ring is more pronounced than most. Personally, I consider it a form of die deterioration and not an error and don't see it having additional value, but keep it if you find it interesting

Nah it not an error to me. Just more interesting that they keep going like this.

20220930_180546370.jpg Now this one someone just pushed the die just a little to far.

It seems like this is more common on zinc cents than the older copper ones, I wonder why. It seems like the softer zinc would be easier on the dies. Maybe they are just able to use the dies longer?

I've not seen it in the older copper pennies yet. Yes, it's quite common on the zinc'ers though. I've come across plenty of those.

U would think if it's not legible from mint. It wouldn't be legal tender. But that's our government for ya!
