Just thought this might be a fun thread. Show some pics of your key and semikey date coins. Show them off with pride! If not, oh well, worth a try for a fun post.
Hello everyone, She is worn, and tired looking but was I ever happy to add this Mercury Dime to my collection! Regards, Stan
Well, I have some better ones. But these scans are the only pics of one I have on this computer. Semi-key, 1916-S Walker in low grade:
Here's one of my keys: Question. Which coin do you like better? Mine that's one grade higher or illini420's which is a RD? Or do you consider them about equal?
I don't know, kanga, that's hard for me to decide. Granted, I'll admit I'm not a cent fan and know little about them, but if I was forced to choose one or the other, I think I'll go with yours. l really like the color representation in your pics compared to illini420's seems more like a good natural copper cent. Also, the veins of the leafs on the headress seem to stand out more to me on yours. I also noticed thee arrows on the reverse more than on the other cent. However, to illini's credit, I like that wreath detail better. One question I do have though is what in the world is going on with the reeds of the rim on the reverse from about 10-12 o'clock? I'm not sure if it's my eyes playing tricks on me or if it's the holder but it almost seems the rim looks chewed up. Granted, that's probably not the case since I don't see it so well on the obverse, but still drew my eye to it.
kanga, although my first love is for RD copper cents, I really have started to appreciate the high grade RB coins and the high grade BN coins lately. not only are they easier on the wallet in most cases, but a 66BN is a bit more rare than a 66RD. I probably mentioned it to you before, but I really like your 1909-S IHC and would love the opportunity to make an offer on it if you ever consider letting another collector own it for awhile dimeguy, admittedly the pics of my 1909-S IHC in 65RD are not perfect as it's not that sharp and doesn't show off the luster, but the color is fairly correct. you should note that the color of many of the san francisco indian cents (of both 1908 and 1909) are not the same red as other copper cents, but instead are much more of a straw golden color. not all are like that, but many of them are. and I'd guess that the rim's of kanga's coin just look like that because of the plastic gasket used inside of PCGS holders, pretty common for them to cover the rim quite a bit like that on smaller coins.
It's the insert in the holder that is making the dentils look strange. It's the price you pay to make sure the coin won't wiggle around.
