Hello everyone, I was busy yesterday with my wife attending a plant pop up event in Brooklyn. But I was able to get in 2 1/2 hours of detecting afterwards in slight rain from one of the outer cloud bands of Hurricane Ian. Got me one silver! 1953 Roosevelt Wheat Cents Everything Huge metal ball. Mystery. Ecuagenera pop up event at Brooklyn Horticulture 2 Hoyas and 2 Orchids
With the rain we received yesterday and last night I was wondering if you got to go detecting. Nice finds and that silver is really nice. You did well with your wife at the plant show and sale too. And it’s still raining here this morning.
Yes! I do it for her. We waited on a line for 1 hour and it was worth it to see my wife happy with her new babies as she calls them!
Of course I don't mean to offend the people whose lives have been devastated by this storm, but they say beach detecting can be good after a storm if there is erosion and a lot of old top stuff is washed away and you can get to the older bottom stuff that your detector couldn't reach before. (After the waters recede and expose old undetected areas.)
Does the hole go all the way through the mystery ball? If so, possibly a fishing sinker. On 19th century sites here we'd find what we called "musketball sinkers": net sinkers cast in a musketball mold and then holed. Is the mystery ball made of lead? If so, there ya go. If not, I suppose it could be something else.
